"..and he shall give you the desires of your heart.." (Ps 37:4)
To delight oneself in anything is to purposefully "take or derive" joy from it. Delighting yourself in the Lord suggests consciously enjoying all that God is in its entirety...on purpose. Some people take joy in being sullen faced, irritable, unfriendly, rude, noisy, unpleasant, and the list is endless. Equally so, you can derive joy from being infectiously passionate about Christ, your faith and your hope in the Lord. You are encouraged to take great pleasure at celebrating the finished work of the cross through which you have become a new person (2 Cor 5:17). It is important to make room for celebrating the goodness of God in your daily experiences. Likewise take time from your busy schedules to meditate on his goodness, and then delight yourself in all that God means to you. One thing busyness does is robs you of quality time with things that require deep thought and then deep appreciation of our steadfast God. The Word of God promises that "He shall give you the desires of your heart." Many people give time to chasing after material things and gains but here is a simple solution offered in the Word of God; "delight yourself also in the Lord." So much time can be spent worrying about anything from the children to bills to be paid but now the Word of God makes us know that the key to unlocking breakthrough is in "delight", in taking joy and pleasure in the knowledge of God. Give time today to listing the things God has done in your life in the last seven days. You will be amazed how long a list you will end up with. After this exercise, the invitation to delight yourself in the Lord will make more sense to you. The Bible beckons today; "Sing aloud to God our strength; make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob" (Ps 81:1). Place your list of God's goodness in a visible corner of your home, office or car so that when the devil speaks his next lie through circumstances or situations around you, you can produce your list full of God's goodness. Then purposely and purposefully enjoy God's goodness in your life...delight yourself also in the Lord today and watch your heart's desires answered with incredible speed.
