Angels and Israel

'Arise, shine for your light has come and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See darkness is on the land and deep darkness on the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.' We live in days when this scripture is beginning to be fulfilled. But the time of darkness and light together, will bring about a greater time of 'spiritual warfare' and will necessitate a deeper call to prayer. To help us get a sense of the power of prayer and the revealing of God during warfare we need look no further than WWI and WWII. These were extraordinary days in our nation to live through. Dr Victor Pearce (now 94) lived in both wars and chronicled the amazing stories of the revealing of the power of prayer and the intervention of the Lord during warfare. This is the fifth in a series of articles revealing these stories. I think you will be moved and inspired, and I pray the Spirit of God will speak into your spirit through what you read - Jonathan Bellamy, Cross Rhythms CEO.

Something Symbolic about the Discovery of the Scrolls

We have said it was only because Hitler was defeated that the 'home for the Jews' was preserved, and the State of Israel was created by the United Nations.

You have probably heard of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Scores of large earthenware jars were discovered in the caves near the Dead Sea, and sealed inside them were all the sacred scrolls of the Old Testament. There were also other writings by the religious sect, which had hidden them for safety when the Roman invasion was threatened in AD 66.

Among those other scrolls one was found which was dramatically significant. It was called 'The Assumption of Moses', and it prophesied that the scrolls would be preserved in those jars 'until the liberation of Israel'. The writer of that prophecy must have been thinking of a similar action by the prophet Jeremiah. He buried documents in a jar, which he said would be discovered when Israel returned to Palestine (Jeremiah 32:13-44). The remarkable thing is that it was at the time of the creation of the new State of Israel that the sacred scrolls were found. Listen to Professor Yadin's report.

Professor Yadin is the son of Professor Eleazar Sukenik who bought the first three scrolls for the University of Jerusalem. He wrote on page 14 of his book Message of the Scrolls:

I cannot avoid the feeling that there is something symbolic in the discovery of the scrolls and their acquisition at the very moment of the creation of the State of Israel. It is as if these scrolls have been waiting in caves for two thousand years until the people of Israel had returned to their home . . . The first three scrolls were bought by my father for Israel on the 29th of November 1947, which was the very day upon which the United Nations voted for the re-creation of the Jewish State after two thousand years.

Yadin then quotes a paragraph from the 'Assumption of Moses' scroll in which it instructed the original preservation of all those scrolls as follows:

Preserve the scrolls which I shall deliver to you . . . Anoint them with oil and put them away in earthen jars until God's name shall be called upon, until the day of repentance, in the visitation wherewith the Lord will visit them in the consummation of the end of days.

This reflected the words of Jeremiah's prophecy:

Put them in an earthenware jar ... for I the Lord will gather Israel from all countries where I have driven them. I will plant them back in their own land. Is anything too hard for the Lord to do?'

Nothing was too hard for the Lord. Is not this the reason why the angel armies intervened to give victory to the Allies? They were enabled to make a home for the Jews at the end of the First World War, and create a State of Israel after the Second.

The White Cavalry for Israel

I have preserved some newspaper cuttings which are reports made at the time of the invasion of the newly born State of Israel. They state that within two days of Israel's birth as a state, she was invaded from all sides. The aggressors aimed to demolish this work of the United Nations Organisation. In spite of that no member of UNO did anything to stop this flagrant reversal of decree. The world just sat back and watched, expecting the State of Israel to be wiped out.
