VIP: Valuing The Homeless In Stoke-on-Trent

Heather: Can you tell us any good stories? It's always easier to understand someone's vision and work through the eyes of those that have been touched by it.

Dawn: Yeah one lad came to VIP on heroin, he came to several events and heard the story of an ex addict. That gave him hope - he had a chat after the event and asked for help and advice and support. VIP was able to direct him to a rehab where he was able to quit heroin & now he's been reconciled with his family.

Heather: Where do you see VIP going in the future?

Dawn: VIP's future? Who knows!! (only God!!)...all we know is that God has asked us to show unconditional 'random acts of kindness' to the downtrodden & put down...wherever, whenever & to whoever we can! The Bible says 'his kindness leads us to repentance'...for me she/he who has been forgiven much...loves much!...so watch this space...whether it be events, hostel work or street work, that's our bag.

Heather: If anyone reading this has a desire to start something similar, what advice could you give them? Would you like to see other sister VIP initiatives in other cities?

VIP: Valuing The Homeless In Stoke-on-Trent

Dawn: If people wanna start this kind of work my advice would be 'go for it'!! - get a crew of people together & do something!!! Martin Luther King said 'evil prevails when good men/women do nothing'. I would love to see other VIP projects in other cities!! - I know a friend of mine was doing a VIP project in Manchester so let's av it!!

Heather: If you personally had a vision statement for your life what would it be?

Dawn: Hmmm, maybe 'live to love & love to live' - although this does change often depending on what I'm reading/who I'm listening to & what's inspiring me at the time!

Heather: Who's your hero and why?

Dawn: Human heros - my Mum & Dad!!...they reflect Gods unconditional love & acceptance for me and have always believed in me, never giving up. They've kept going in the tough times, are totally self sacrificial for others & 'put a smile on my dial!!' Also Steve Chalke & Andy Hawthorne as I've already said.

Heather: If people would like to support what you're doing, how can they do that?

Dawn: If people wanna support VIP - they can do it by praying for the hostels/customers who come to the events or by volunteering. Alternatively they could give money/donations. For more info on any of these options please contact me at ddeaville@sgfl.org.uk CR
