1 John 2: 1

1 John 2: 1
'My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defence-Jesus Christ, the
Righteous One.'

This passage is lifted from a book written by Jesus' first cousin (John), written to explain what it means to walk with Jesus, to be a Christian. He is
encouraging his readers not to walk in darkness but in the light of Jesus' ways. To do as Jesus would do; to live as Jesus would live; and reminding us of our need for Jesus. John encourages us by saying that when we walk with Jesus and live like Him that our Joy will be complete! Thats got to be a good thing. Complete deep Joy.

Other good news John shares with his readers is that 'Jesus speaks to the Father in our defense'. How amazing is that?!! John is real with his readers;
saying, 'even when we try our best and truely follow Jesus our humanness will fail us- but do not worry! Jesus speaks on our defense.'

I can picture it now... I've just droppped my dinner on the floor or bumped my car and the dreaded 'beep...!' word falls out of my mouth. Arghhhhh! I
quickly (acknowledging the wrong)say a quick 'Sorry Jesus' prayer. On hearing the heart of my prayer Jesus goes to fight my corner with God. The Fathers love for His Son and His grace causes God to cancel that 'Beep...!out. God is so good hey?, Jesus really is a saviour! Atoning sacrifice.

I remember as a child doing things wrong, my sister would always tell on me, not because she was fighting my corner in defense but because she was wanting me
punished. I'm so glad Jesus isn't like that. Jesus is a true friend who would rather take the weight of my sin and wrong than see me face my deserved punishment.

Jesus is like the perfect brother that would see my remorse for wrong, and so instead of seeking me punishment He would take it on Himself. And He did!

Are you about to tell on someone today? If so remember Jesus, remember He defends you. Is it not better to live like Him, walk like Him, in His light, rather than deal with things the worlds way? Don't seek others punishment but seek forgiveness.

Jesus is the best big brother ever!

If you are feeling low because of sin remember Jesus, He loves you, He hears your heart and He will defend you, you don't need to.

1 John 1: 9
'If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.'  CR
