Deborah Mitchell comments on the destiny of Scotland and the Church

As I write this article, Great Britain is in the cusp of historic change. By the time it is published, the people of Scotland will have made their decision. Will we be a "United Kingdom" or an independent Scotland? Either way Scotland is receiving more power to run its nation.

There is an excitement in Scotland, with a sense of destiny taking place. People are engaged in the Yes or No campaign. Passions are running high. Discussions, debates and arguments are going on throughout the nation.

God is a God of unity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit in perfect harmony - complete agreement one with the other. In Psalm 133 God speaks of how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell in unity. His anointing/power rests on unity.

Yet God is clearly defining the governmental rule of Scotland. Christians in Scotland have been fasting and praying for God's kingdom to come in the nation regardless of their personal preference or opinion.

A couple of years ago my eldest daughter became ill. She was violently sick. The doctor prescribed anti sickness tablets to which she had an extreme adverse reaction. She was so distressed as her mind was racing and bombarded with erratic thoughts. She was unable to swallow as her throat muscles paralysed. I took her to A & E. It turned out she was allergic to the anti-sickness tablets. She was in extreme danger and needed an antidote. The antidote was in another town and would take an hour to get to us. It was now 2am. This was not the time for consideration or politeness. I called the prayer team.

I was then ushered into the only available room, the nursery, and was told to wait there for news. On the wall of the nursery there was a picture of what looked like a giant, only seen by the outline of dots. As I looked at the child's dot to dot picture, the Lord spoke to my heart that He was joining the dots, nation to nation, ministry to ministry and leader to leader. He was causing unity to come in His kingdom; the sleeping giant was rising and we are on the edge of glory!

Shortly after, the doctor arrived with my daughter in tow, completely recovered, no antidote needed. Thank you Jesus! It's good to belong to the body of Christ. The Lord had answered our prayers and she was safe.

The Lord has heard and answered our prayers for the nation (His kingdom come). His kingdom is within us. He is joining His people in unity to release His anointing/power.

There may have been a shift of governmental power in the nation, or a change of borders, but we can relax in the knowledge that God is a God of unity.

He answers prayer and His will, will come to pass. There is a joining taking place in the body of Christ.

I posted my vote today as I have been invited to go on mission to Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides, with my Nigerian brothers and sisters who have gathered from all over Scotland. The topic is Fresh Fire by the Holy Spirit. On the first night, the day of the Referendum, I will start with Acts 2 - they were assembled TOGETHER in the upper room.

I voted Yes for Scotland, but some of my family are voting No; that's the joy of democracy, but unity will always be in God's kingdom. I love my English brothers and sisters. Scotland is not turning it's back, there is only a realigning of governmental power, whether Yes or No. Socially, culturally and spiritually we are united.

In 1949 in the Scottish Hebrides, where the most powerful revival started, two women, Peggy Smith 84 years of age and her sister Christine, two years younger, called out to the Lord for a spirit of repentance to turn folk again to the Lord they had grieved. The Lord spoke to them and said, "I will pour water upon him that is thirsty and floods upon the dry ground". They were quoted as saying, "We are dealing with a covenant keeping God". The Rev Duncan Campbell was a catalyst for the revival. He stated that, "We moved out of the realm of the common and the natural into the sphere of the supernatural and that is revival".

James Guthrie, a young Covenanter of 1661, was martyred for refusing to acknowledge that the king was divine. His final words as he stood in the gallows were, "The covenant, the covenant will yet see Scotland revival". I believe his prophecy is being fulfilled in these days.

There is no division within God's kingdom, only vision to see His kingdom come. (Matthew 24:14) CR
