Burning Questions

Monday 1st July 2002

Tony Cummings asked the questions, Cathy Burton answered them.

Tony: As Cross Rhythms went gaga over 'Burn Out' when we got our hands on the independently released copy, why did you think it necessary to remix the whole project? Has the remix REALLY made that much difference?

Cathy: Thanks, I'm glad you liked it, however. the mix you originally had didn't capture the essence of what we were trying to do. It's a real shame, because we'd worked really hard on it as had the guy who mixed it, but as it wasn't what we wanted. There were a lot more bits and pieces we wanted to draw out and as we had the extra time we had the opportunity to add a few extra things too. So the remix made a huge difference to me and gave me real confidence in the album, in that I knew I'd done my best and we'd come up with the best we could do with the given time and resources.

Tony: What about people who bought the album independently? Won't they need to buy it again?

Cathy: Well, no one actually bought it independently, as I sent them the "yellow" version as a gift and then six months later sent them the real thing. So I just gave them away really! We decided to give some away at our local Wick
Festival too.

Tony: The song "Take Me Out" is currently a turntable hit on Cross Rhythms radio. What's the song saying and how did you come to write it?

Cathy: The song is just about feeling trapped by life's circumstances. I was pretty desperate when I wrote this, there was some heavy stuff going on and it's really just like a prayer.

Tony: What plans and dreams do you have? Where do you think the next year will take you?

Cathy: I've got dreams about writing inspirational songs, so I'm always working on that! I'm hoping to gig as much as possible this year and next year. Hopefully everywhere! I think next year will bring a swift follow up album and I'm really looking foward to recording it. Got some new songs already! CR
