From Rasta To Disciple

Sunday 16th October 2005

Reggae gospel singer JUDY MOWATT talked to Mike Rimmer about her years with Bob Marley and the reggae superstar's deathbed conversion to Christianity.

From Rasta To Disciple

I am sitting in the Hard Rock Café in Birmingham watching the big screen which is showing a classic Bob Marley clip of "Jammin'" and watching the distinctive figures of three magnificently dressed ladies Marcia Griffiths, Judy Mowatt and Rita Marley swaying gently to the music as they sing backing vocals. I am transfixed because only days earlier I had interviewed Judy Mowatt and she was remembering this period of her life.

The trio had met working in the studio and their voices had immediately blended into something special. Marley himself had recruited them to be part of his backing band, The Wailers. Judy remembered, "The first song we did was 'Jah Live' and Bob wanted us to work with him on his 'Natty Dread' album. The I-Threes continued to work with Marley until his death."

As you'd expect, Judy was totally engrossed in Rastafarianism, as she explained, "I was a Rasta for 22 years and I was genuine. I embraced the objectives of Rastafari, knowing that one of the aims and objectives were to repatriate to the land of our ancestors. And also to make music to let people be aware of who they are as a people and knowing that the western hemisphere is only a place for them to pass through, but we should return to our father's land. That was my plan, but God had a different plan! After 22 years I became very unfulfilled, dissatisfied; not by any one thing or by any one person but I started to search inside because I realised that there was something else that I needed that I could not put my hand on. I knew that God was calling me into deeper waters. I was a little bit fearful because I was wondering what my brothers and sisters would say and what would be their reaction. So I was a bit fearful."

At the same time as her search, the singer's personal life was filled with difficulty too where two family members were in serious situations. She didn't go into detail but confessed, "I was at a place where I thought I wanted to die but I never had the strength to take my own life. I started praying and I said, 'God, I really don't know you because if I knew you, then all of this would not have been happening to me.' Not knowing that God had used that situation to draw me to him. I started reading my Bible. I had read my Bible three times from cover to cover and I started reading, but the things I was seeing this fourth time were what I never saw in the three times I read my Bible."

She continued, "I was seeing it through another pair of lenses. I read, 'Wherein, there is no other name given among men whereby we must be saved, but by the name of Jesus Christ.' That flew out of the Bible and into my spirit and that really turned the key. Whenever you have a mindset and you seriously believe something, you're not going to open to anything else, and I wasn't open to anything else. But God opened me to start seeking and searching."

It was listening to an interview with Haile Selassie which really challenged Judy's thinking. She remembered, "The interviewer asked him, 'Why is it that people say you are the returned Messiah?' and he answered through an interpreter - 'I'm a mere man. I will be replaced by the oncoming generation and a human being should not be emulated for a deity.' Somebody gave me a book, an autobiography and selected speeches of 'His Majesty' and I see where 'His Majesty' is a Christian king! I recognise now that instead of worshipping him, I should be worshipping who he is worshipping! So I see 'His Imperial Majesty' as my teacher."

On stage at last year's Birmingham Gospel Festival, Mowatt was dressed splendidly in white looking younger than her 52 years. She shared some of her experiences, testified to the truth she's discovered and sang songs from her excellent album 'Something Old, Something New'. The crowd clearly loved it.

When she became a Christian in the mid-'90s amidst a wave of other successful reggae artists finding Christian faith like Papa San, Stitchie, Chevelle Franklin and Carlene Davis. After her performance, I ask her what she thinks Marley would have made of her conversion. It was here that she made my jaw drop!

She shared, "When Bob was on his dying bed, his wife Rita called me on the phone and said to me that Bob was in such excruciating pain and he stretched out his hand and said, 'Jesus take me.' I was wondering to myself, 'Why is it that Bob said "Jesus" and not "Selassie"?' But I never said it to anyone. Then I met a friend of mine and he said his sister, who is a Christian, was a nurse at the hospital where Bob was before he passed on, and she led him to the Lord Jesus Christ. So when Rita saw him saying 'Jesus take me', he had already received the Lord Jesus Christ in his life."

Judy said that sharing that, telling the truth about Marley's conversion isn't popular in Jamaica. "People need to know, because they would be drawn also to Jesus Christ. But nobody wants to promote that and in Jamaica, I said it on a popular television programme and a Rasta man met me and asked me why did I have to say that? I said, 'Because it's the truth!' But he never wanted me to reveal that and I think that anybody doesn't want that to be revealed, because so many people would be drawn to the Gospel."

Thinking back to the '70s explosion of reggae and its association with Rastafarianism, is it possible that this latest wave of gospel reggae artists might be part of another movement? Could the power of the Spirit see another grassroots movement born and the music be part of leading many to the real truth of Jesus? Judy shared her thoughts, "I see another grassroots movement being born inside of the people of God. Because I think what God did inside the birth of reggae message was to uplift the people that were in degradation, the people who suffered. I mean, the music was birthed out of suffering! Out of Trench Town. It was inside of the pain and the agony that people started singing about it. It is inside of the pain that people are experiencing, where God has given us songs and he's using the Gospel as a vehicle to go inside places where we probably would not be able to go. But I see this as a continuation of what took place in the '70s in Jamaica." CR

I met Judith Mowatt in 1992 in France and it was before she became christian. I am so happy to hear her testimony and i am not surprise that Bob Marley knew the Lord before he passed. I pray that many people will be blessed by this powerful testimony. Thank you sister Judith, May God bless you abundantly.

With love,

Rastafarianism is not a homogenous religion with one set of beliefs; in fact, there are many Rastas who do not worship Selassie but believe in Yeshua. They are Christians - however, they are deeply suspicious of the professing church because of its historyof involvement with slavery and racism and because of its compromise with the 'Babylonian' power structures of this world. They don't use the word 'Christian' but they follow Christ.

Yeah Vince, mi love your comment 'cos its true. Rastas like the 'Twelve tribes of Israel" have Jesus as their Saviour and beleive that the Coronation of Sellassie is a divine one - symbolizing that God's last move, manifestation and appearance is going to be in and from Africa. I'm glad that King Marley called on Jesus before he left the earth. I am born again, and I also believe strongly in the Black race. I pray that the Lord Jesus would manifest himself to people I love like BUJU BANTON.

I am SOOOO happy to learn that Bob Marley gave his life to the Lord before he died!!!
I have always loved him for the artist he was and for his love for people and Black people in particular, and the way he uplifted otherwise downcast people (historically and spiritually).
I have always thought his music has some kind of anointing, and the only problem I had was the fact that (I thought) he was not a Christian.
Thank God he was reconciled with the Lord!!!

Blessings for your wonderful website!

Hotep
Sistah Judy Mowatt was my role model whenI was in the each of 17 seeking who I was and where to turn to in my live. She gives me inspiration and I loved her then and I still love her know. When I met her 17 yaers ago, she reasoned with me and she gave me to strenght that I needed. I feel it when she say that there is more when you walk the path of Rastafari. There comes a point in live when you have to move one.
I'm 42 years now and who feels it knows it.

I've heard this story before, but I did not believe it. However, after reading this article, I am now a believer. This article is very good. I have to agree with Judy, more people in Jamaica need to know this. I am very happy that Bob Marley made it right with God before he died.

Reply by Blessing Gumbo in Harare Zimbabwe @ 15:42 on May 9 2008

I am so relieved to hear that Bob died believing that Jesus Christ is the serviour considering his echoes that Sellasie was God. I am a reggae fanatic but quite disturbed when the Reggae musicians claim that Sellasie is their God. Sellasie was just like our president Mugabe here in Zimbabwe. There are some of Sellasie's relatives country wide they do not claim that their grandad was a god. I think the rastafarian community blow things out of proportion .

I was very surprised when I read this article but inspired. I have always loved Bob Marley's musice because it is encouraging and was birthed through the suffering of black people. I am very happy he accepted Christ and I wish more people knew and would accept the truth. As the Bible says, "The truth will set you free."

I am proud that Sista Judy made this known to the world infact Bob was a member of the Twelve Tribes of Israel mansion of the Rastafari livity the order that in 1997 declared that only Jesus(Yeshua) is divine. So Rasta, Christian all should know that Jesus is God.

Christianity is a religion just like Islam etc.Rasta came into the picture as a movement for black recognition. Please I was born a Christian, but I hate this issue of Christians considering other religions as evil.Yes the Bible says "For God so loves the world, that he gave his only begotten Son........." So please what about the Koran? It might be saying thesame thing about Mohammed.Religion is just like politics; when u belong to political party, you will obviously claim your party is the best.Like Great Bob Marley said "Never calim your way is the right way until we get to the end". I don't have an Issue with Rasta, Islam, etc, I am a Christian, but I respect every other religious views. If we learn to live like that, the world will be void of upheavals.

I know that I received redemption through my praising Rastafari, who we regard as Christ in the Second Advent. It wasn't through Jesus. This is a fact. So, many of you who feel you have to go through Jesus, you should do so. And, continue waiting for His return. As Rastafarians, we know he has already returned, in the form of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, the Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, as it is prophesized. Read your scripture and pray for understanding. I know for a fact that I am saved. As for my Sister Judy, May Jah Bless.

Peace and blessings

I do not agree with the idea of making a Rasta cut his or her hair when converting to Christianity. I think we could have won more Rasta to the faith if we did let them cut their hair in their own time.

Reply by Tembeka @ 15:01 on Aug 16 2008

faith has nothing to do with hair as now is the law of Grace which Jesus brought us the good news of.

Render your heart and not your garments. You can keep your locs and still be a Christian or get baptized.

Jesus Christ is the author of our faith, not our hair or clothes or even what we eat. Let all men do as they see fit as long as they are following Christ - which is the Fathers unconditional Love.

As the bible says, "3 things are left - faith, hope and love. The greatest of these is love".

This is a great article. Thanks be unto our merciful and forgiving father through the blood of Jesus. Bob is in and better place, and I pray by the Holy Spirit that other rastafarians, and anyone who is not saved, will accept Jesus as their Lord and savior. It's easy for us to profess other so called faiths, but when our backs are against the wall the only name that we call upon is the name of Jesus. God is gathering his people and the world is at a cross road waiting for the return of the true king of Kings and Lords of Lords.

If Marley said JESUS OR SELASSIE?
In marleys song 'so much things to say' he sings: i'll never forget noway..they crucify jesus christ...
Bob would never ignore christ he sang it...bob never sang anything he did not mean..simple.
He also said in an interview that selassie i is the king of kings on earth!!!
And that christ said he will return within 2000 yrs with a new name...some would say rastafari...
Haile selassie born of the line of solomon and david..this a reality...familly tree does'nt lie...you cant make something like that up!
decent is decent....
Haile selassie is a christian king...
most important thing is that selassie represents good in flesh.
Some say :even selassie did not except his status..but in reality the second he took the title and was corinated on king david's throne ..he displayed without words his status...selassie said:untill the colour of a mans skin is of no more signifigance than the colour of his eyes..there will be war!!!only a special man could say that....
72 different nations..kings,dukes,delegates were pressent at his corination why??even bowed to him...kings dont usually do that...im not guessing, this actualy took place...
on earth...Bob would be disapointed to know that folk are guessing and chatting about if he called selassie or jesus...bob called the one that gave him the inspiration to inspire and create great music....
bob knew and knows where his inspiration comes from....that is the important thing.
why an ephiopian king from ephiopia? why not?

the important thing is being a good human..thats my religion...if you like...?
even though its my way of life and not a religion...

guidance and protection...

This is what it is all about. When it all boils down...it is not about your race, religion or color of your eyes, it is all about how you have served your time on earth. Have you been good to others, have you withheld that which you had in your possession, that your brother asked your for?...what works have your performed? This is what judgment will be based on. There are nations upon nations who are misled and raised to praise other Gods, even golden calf's, but no matter who you serve, it is all about what you have done.

I as a Rastafarian, can never deny His Majesty's works. Jesus Christ came to baptize by water, but His Majesty baptize by fire. When His Majesty sat on the throne and was coroneted, there was no explanation necessary, it is what it is....It is what Isaiah, Elijah and all the prophets before us prophesied. The same prophets that prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ. Rev. 5 versus 5 is the truth. There is no man on earth to ever hold that title from the beginning of time until now.

Haile Selassie dealt with that interview as Jesus Christ dealt with the scribes and Pharisees. Ethiopia, the birthplace of civilization is the oldest Christian Kingdom in the world, the only place that Black people, the first fruits has ever owned that has never been conquered.

Each person must read with understanding. Use your resources to discover truth, do not be guided with what you have been told by others.

EVERY MAN MUST SIT UNDER THEIR OWN FIG TREE AND WORSHIP HIS OWN GOD.

I think it's absolutely amazing! I've been reading about him most of the day today at work because I listen to his music daily. A lot of people have different belief systems and a lot of people believe that we just need to be "good" but the problem is that we all have different standards of what good is. A bank robber may think he's good because he doesn't kill someone. We can always say we are good because there is always something worse to compare our actions to. I am leaning towards believing Bob Marley did come to Jesus before he died. Everything I've read supports this and it makes perfect sense. The church he got baptized in was a church known to try to help rhasta's learn about Jesus. It wasn't just any church, it was specifically intended for the same reason Marley came to it. What an amazing testimony! I've read that his last words to Ziggy Marley were something like "Don't live for money". Not a direct quote but something like that.

I was searching for info about Judy and found this marvelous article. Reason being in another article regarding her personal experience of being drawn to Jesus, she mentioned Andrew Lawrence, a friend and a pastor with Bible Teachers International Ministries in Jamaica. He happened to be a longtime friend of my brother's. Tragically, this humble man who lived serving others for Jesus was martryed in his home last Saturday night after preaching a service that evening. He layed his life down for others. It was his desire that warring factions in Trenchtown come together and live in peace through love. An article in Jamaica Gleaner yesterday said that the slain preacher left a legacy and that what he wanted to see happen did on Sunday, the enemies came together at church because of their common respect for this servant. Hopefully, Judy will be there among them offering light and hope to the people. I am in awe of what I found out about her and how Andrew was a significant influence in her changed life.

I also went to J paul's my space, it is nice, brother. Hope you can contact her.

It is very interesting to know that some one like Bob has receive Christ he has been singing songs from the Bible all his live , you who don't believe are fools because he is in a place of peace and all you people can say I don't beileve . Some of his songs are taken from the psalms so why are you so frighten Heaven is real and so is Hell and he had time to ask God for forgiveness . Praise be to God he has forgiven him , the rest of you are going to hell with your unbelieve and doubt. meanwhile he ask God to take him from the pain. the man is at peace hell fire burns continually there is no peace for the wicked. His songs are up lifted but he need a saviour and he found him at last. Read your bible the rivers of babylon where did you think he get it have a great time reading.

TISK! TISK! WHAT WOULD MARLEY SAY? If he was still alive, do you actually think that he would waste his breath passing judgment on his brothers and sisters like you have? I THINK NOT! This brother spent his life uplifting his people in every way possible because he LOVED them. I believe Mowatt's story because they were VERY close! Moreover, I am certain that if the Almighty had granted Marley a few more years on this earth after his illness, then he would have spent his remaining years spreading his new faith. I truly believe this and I am not Christian - nor am I Rasta.

MY POINT IS IF YOU SAY YOU BELIEVE THEN DON'T SPEND YOUR TIME TEARING OTHERS DOWN. HELP TO BUILD THEM UP INSTEAD. THAT IS WHAT BROTHER MARLEY WAS ABOUT.

(May the Almighty forgive him of his sins and grant him Paradise.)

"Judge not that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again," (Matthew 7:1-2).

Its a sure thing to be able to realize that religion is a thing of the mind and heart. For each individual has his / her own beliefs.from that its clear to behold that the central figure of religions is the ressurection. thats why the rasta man say . rasta will live forever and christians know that even though they die they are only resting only to wake up and find themselves in a paradise. So the take here is life continuinity which incorporates all the religions

''emancipate yourself from mental slavery'' that's from the song ''redemption song'', '' I feel like booming a church now that you know that the preacher is lying'' from talking blues, ''they building church and university..deceiving the people continually'' from ''babylon system''. In an inteview bob said '' god is black''. Like Bob,as a blackman I can't accept a white god with blond hair and blue eyes..and the representation of the devil is the black man..no man..can't accept it...God is universal..through Haile Selassie Blackman has gain a new identity and dignity..I can't forget the time when the black slaves and the indians were forced to turned to christianity,,we have lost our religion, culture and ourselves.. rasta culture has changed that..though partly..through christianity they want to make us live like them.eat, feel and think like them..what christianity teach you is how much money you must contribute..with your help vatican is becoming one of the richest state in the world..I say no to uniformity..''we refuse to be what they wanted us to be'' Bob Marley said...Someone said above that Bob turned to God in his last days..but Bob has always turn to god..in his every day life..jesus is not the only god...he his only a messenger..JAH RASTAFARI..EVER LIVING EVER FAITHFUL EVER SURE....SELASSIE I THE FIRST....hey baylon don,t try to fool my people..we have seen the JAH LIGHT......

in this day and age there are many peoples crying out - be it alone or as a group - they who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved - there is no other name that men cam be saved other than Christ Jesus . salassie had a relationship with the same one GOD Jesus Christ . that is who he worshiped . the blessing of Bob Marley giving his life to Christ is avaiable to all. we have to fulfill the book .. the end says when he returns (Jesus ) his eyes would be like a flame of fire ... his feet like brass ... and all will see ... Salessie was a mere man - flesh and bone like us . Jesus said he would establish his kingdom and it would be without end... sallesie - also a believer in Jesus Christ only had an earthly kingdom for a few years - but he and bob and all those who believe - wait in joyful hope for the end of days and the return of the everlasting GOD Jesus Chrst . be blessed

so much confusion,.... i have read all of this and to me the most important message here was,.... that each person must read with understanding. Use your resources to discover truth, do not be guided with what you have been told by others.

EVERY MAN MUST SIT UNDER THEIR OWN FIG TREE AND WORSHIP HIS OWN GOD.
Haile Selassie is my teacher and my guide, and for those who say he is god, please tell me something, who was Selassie praying to in the churches, blessed love and guidence

The joy of listening to gospel music each new day is because Jesus is the reason why I live. In this last few months, I've developed interest for 'Reggae Gospel' and I just happened to lay hands on this piece of music I love to dance to but have not really listened to the lyrics well till today and for 10 straight hours I've not stopped listening to it. The title? Judy Mowatt's 'My Lord and Saviour'. I tell you, the message it carries is an embodiment of the whole gospel. Thank you Judy, I have fallen in love with this song.

This led me to search the net for information on Judy which brings me to this web page. I'm amazed, but equally filled with joy to know the legendary Bob Marley experienced the real and true Messiah before leaving earth.

One thing that I know, Rita Marley lives in Ghana [West Africa] today and is doing philantropic work helping the needy. If from Judy's testimony Rita was witness to Bob's prayer for the Lord to receive him, I hope that ministered to her spirit as well to see the need to seek the Lord's salvation. That's humanity's most felt-need: the need for a Lord and Saviour and not just bread or shelter.

By the way, seeking information on Judy also led me to Yahoo [http://uk.music.yahoo.com/ar-258956-bio--Judy-Mowatt] where it is advertised you can get the best information on Judy. To my surprise an article on Judy did not mention anything about her conversion to Christ, except a comment about how she saw Bob Marley through the Bible as, 'really Joseph in his second advent.'

The world may deny or refuse to accept our liberation and conversion to Christianity and only hold on to our past, but the simple truth is that we have found a new Lord and a Saviour in Jesus Christ. Such is what happened to Bob Marley and Judy Mowatt.

Praise be the Messiah who never turns His back on the prodical child!!!

We all know that there is one GOD ALMIGHTY. I believe too many people in this world get things all twisted. Keep reading the Holy Word and give all your praise to Lord Jesus Christ. Bob was wanting to see peace to all mankind because Bob was a real person who cared about humanity. Every person in this world needs to give all there glory to Mr.Creator Jehovah (Jah) he created us all. God Bless.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that WHOSOEVER (not any color) BELIEVE IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE. Just to let the world know that if ourself righteousness could cut it and if the answer was yes to jesus comment to the Father in gethsaname, Calvary would not happen but it did, so the only way is through christ believe it yes or no it wont change our disbelief is no magic pill that make the truth of the Lord jesus chrst disappears

Jesus Christ said Himself that,"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes to the Father but by Me." John 14:6. I am so glad that Bob Marley accepted Christ before he passed away, now we can truly know that he is not dead but immortalized in eternity with the Lord.
I am going to pray that the bridge between Rastafari and Christainity be bridged by Rastas being led to the belief and knowledge that Jesus loves them deeply, understands their pain, and is their Savior. Jamaicans, I feel have a much richer culture than any other formerly enslaved people and I'm speaking this as a Black female born and living in America. Keep the culture but revise the faith. The Word says that where two or more are gathered in His name God is in their midst. Please say a quick prayer for Rastas to accept Jesus Christ.
Jah Jesus Christ!

Fire BURn your wicked lies and Propoganda
How long will you heathen attempt to take everything from Rastafari and still deny Rastafari, eh?
And now you try to take one of ini greatest messengers???
You cannot see that HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY is the Black Christ in Flesh......so you talk of Bob "converting" , you weak hearted fools, you do not real-eyes that Rastafari is the true christ.
One foolish one asked if King Selassie is God,then who was he praying to?
Are you really so foolish?
Then you tell me if "jesus" is God, then who was he praying to?

Jah forgive your wickedness, for you know not what you do or say

Posted by ziggi in brum/uk @ 14:00 on Jul 24 2008

I cannot see Bob sighting Christ as either a revelation, or contradictory to the teachings of Rasta.

If Selassie is Christ in the second advent, then one must believe that there was a first. Does not the first then represent the foundation?

Is not both Christ and H.I.M not of the house of David? The path may differ, but the root is one in the same. Where is the distinction?

If indeed Bob did call out to Christ before his passing, it was not in contradiction to his message of giving thanks and praise to the most high; Jah.., Rastafari.

This debate should not lead to divisions - amongst God-Loving people of the African race, Please.

There should be know spilling of blood for religion, there are none who are better than others based on belief system.

I saw Judy in Portland, ME in the late 80's, about 2 years after I became born again in Christ.
I remember giving a card to the drummer after the show who said he would pass it along to her - I had written something about the gospel and my desire to speak with her some day in heaven...
I always loved those sweet harmonies backing up Bob Marley, and also her solo work, especially Black Woman and Sing our Own Song...that record of just the I-Threes(He's a Legend -or is it called Ascension -can't recall)is another beautiful album.
I was so encouraged to find out years later about her conversion.
Judy, your wonderful music has helped make salvation mean even more to me.
GOD BLESS YOU!

I am a christian. I love every peace loving man and woman be you a muslim, a budhist or a rastafarian. Love your fellow human being as yourself. Once you do that paradise is yours. Again, I think that bob's music and message would surely lead him to heaven. He loved humanity so he loved God (in whatever name you choose to call HIM)

it doesnt matter if he meant Jesus as in Selassie or Jesus that the Christians believe in. because now that he has perished, he has discovered the TRUTH. JESUS IS JESUS. point is he believed in a higher power.. as human beings, thats all we can really do. JAH BLESS

WHETHER BROTHER BOB CALLED ON JESUS CHRIST OR SELASSIE. HE IS ONE AND THE SAME. IT DOES NOT MAKE HIM ANY LESS CHRISTIAN THAN SOME OF YOU SO CALLED CHRISTIANS. CHRISTIANITY IS A WAY OF LIFE AND NOT A RELIGION. AS FAR AS I KNOW THERE IS NO ROOM FOR JUDGEMENTS. THE ONLY TRUE JUDGE IS THE EVER LIVING ALMIGHTY JAH RASTAFARI.

Posted by Mary of Egypt in Dallas TX @ 06:59 on Jan 18 2009

I'm glad Sister Judy has accepted Jesus Christ. I thought one of Marley's biography's stated that he became an Orthodox Christian before he died.

Haile Selassie was a devout Ethiopian Orthodox Christian and never claimed to be God.Daily he prayed from 4am-6am every day followed by Ethiopian Orthodox Divine Liturgy (mass) -which is at least 2 hours.

That said,Rastafarianism had a place and serves a very important purpose for black people, just like Sister Judy said.
But I promise you, if you ask God for a dream about who to follow to reach him,he will undoubtedly show you Jesus Christ.

Bob Marley was baptised on the 4th November 1980 shortly after his diagnosis of cancer. Before that he was a member of the Twelve Tribes of Isreal, a Rastafaian "denomination" which regards Jesus Christ as an important part of their beliefs. The nurse who claimed to have converted Bob was late as he already been baptised. The most important thing here is that Bob, Judy, and the rest of us recognise that that there is a supreme being worthy to be praised and that our lives represent that belief. Judy, you are and will always be my Jamaican Queen, after my daughter of course!! Jah live!

Hi Sisterin Gods richest blessing to you, We can see by the signs of the time gods message is real and will definitely reach the heart of those predestined to eternal life. I always share the word with those led on my heart, for thats what Jesus wants us to do. Gods richest blessing I was aware previously that Bob Marley accepted the Lord jesus Christ.

As Rastafari, InI deal with life, not death. InI are not concerned with how Bob died. InI know how he lived. He lived in praise for InI Jah and King, Haile Selassie First.

If brother Bob Marley converted to Christianity, in his last days, why are his wife and children still RASTAS ? I respect Judy Mowatt but those money-hungry "evangelists" preyed on her vulrenability because she was going through a difficult period in her life. Jesus was a man just like Selassie was a man, They believe in Jesus, yet Christians say RASTAS are wrong for believing in Selassie.Live and let live.Believe and let believe.

A friend of mine forwarded to me the link for reading this article. It is very interesting to know that the king of reggae had found his way to meet the Lord Jesus and accept Him as his savior before passing away. I think this testimony should be shared to as many people as possible since it can be used by the Spirit of God to draw people to Gospel. It would be a nice surprise to run into Bob and sing along in a choir in Heaven!

I have trouble believing in a higher power.

I have no trouble whatsoever believing that Judy, Bob and all these people who have commented before me have good hearts, honest souls, and that the world is a better place with you all in it.

Thank you, and may God (whatever he may be) bless you all.

One love x

Marley was mis-guided by the teachings of rastafari, but the good thng was that they also read the Bible, so then the word of God is already living in him, all was left was for Bob to meet Jesus, and when Bob heard HIS voice [Rev 3:20] he never hesitated, coz at that time Bob knew he was going to leave the world and there was still no hope in his life; but JESUS changed all that and gave Bob peace, hope and most important of all eternal life[1 John 5:11-13]

Sister Judy, don't forget that Jesus also referred to himself as "son of man" just like Haile Selassie referred to himself as "an ordinary man"! Jesus never claimed that he was a "Christian" rather he was a "good Jew" and partaked in all Jewish rites in the synagogues. An example is when he drove out all money changers from the synagogue (not church)! So His Imperial Majesty's comments only signify his "humility". All Jewish prophets share the same Jewish origin, such as Jesus and His Imperial Majesty. Bob's last wish was to be left alone with his "two sons" who were the only ones around when Bob passed on! So the truth can only be known to Ziggy Marley and the younger brother (not even Rita knows Bob's last words except the fragments her sons told her). Judy should enjoy her new found belief rather than discredit Rastafarian beliefs.

Sister Judy, I am glad to see that u are at a point in your life that u are happy, because every one deserves to be happy. You have been a great inspiration to me for many years.I have been a fan of yours for many years especially when u were following the Rastafari way. I have been following the Rastafarian way of living now for twenty five years, and I am always open to any thing that deals with thruths and rights.I must say though that your music over all these years have been powerful, educating ,and very much edifying especially to us as black women. I must ask though why the trimming of the locks. Do u honestly believe that our creator is so carnal minded that he would look at ones hair to judge him or her? It is works. I still love u as a sisthren but would have love to see u with your locks doing the same work, but I must respect the choise u have made.Everyone has his own road to throd in life, so throd on my sisthren

Please remember that they were just entertainers doing what they were paid. Rastafari came long before reggae music so they could never represent the full essences of the culture. Many are called but few are chosen.....
