Eden Burning: British pop-rockers take on the mainstream industry

Thursday 1st June 1995

Continued from page 2

"We're thrilled about that because it will shift a lot of work away from our office and will enable us to concentrate more on rehearsing and writing when we're at home. The good thing about FAB is that they are a respected agency within the music industry, yet also they're fully sympathetic to our Christian heritage, so we couldn't have hoped for better really."

Interestingly enough FAB also have on their books lona and Bruce Cockburn as well as the Oyster Band and the Newcranes. Manager Rob Chalice became interested in Eden Burning after seeing them play at the Mean Fiddler.

Paul has a final word to say to any readers still wondering about Eden Burning's 'spiritual' direction. "One thing that we as a band struggle with is the way that Christians separate so black-and-whitely the sacred from the secular and if we have a vision it's to try and blur that divide and break it down because as Christians we believe that wherever we go we can achieve sacred things. You don't have to be in a sacred venue. So we're trying to break down that divide between the Christian sub-culture and the secular music industry. We want them not to be separate things. It may be an airy-fairy vision but that's what we're trying to push forward with."

So there we have it, Eden Burning's story is once again brought up to date through the illustrious pages of Cross Rhythms. Torquemada, meanwhile, is forced to retire to the darkened recesses of his torture chamber with his comfy chair, his Crossroads video and other pain-inducing devices to await his next unsuspecting victim's cross -over attempt. CR
