Worship leader John Perry bemused by being namechecked in Mojo magazine

CHRISTIAN muso and worship leader John Perry was probably somewhat bemused to be name checked in the September issue of Mojo magazine. Apparently in the 70s John was a regular contributor to the Top Of The Pops' series of pop cover version albums where seasoned session singers would attempt to reproduce the current pop hits. Fellow co-conspirator in this tacky exercise was Tony Rivers (like John, once a regular member of Cliff Richard's vocal backing group). Mojo wrote about the cover version on Top Of The Pops Volume 25' of Donny Osmond's "Puppy Love", "John Perry double-tracked with Martha Smith for an authentic, if female-sounding, Donny. That was the worst cover version I heard,' said Tony". CR
