Sixpence None The Richer feature at royal wedding

THE SMASH pop hit by America's Sixpence None The Richer, "Kiss Me", was unexpectedly featured during the worldwide broadcast of the royal wedding between Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones. Less than 24 hours before the ceremony commenced, a representative of the royal family telephoned Squint Records' UK label (Elektra) and requested to use the song. "Kiss Me" was showcased during the BBC's wedding montage which concluded the broadcast. According to Reuters, 200 million viewers watched the ceremony. Said Sixpence's bandleader and the song's writer Matt Slocum, "I never dreamed that a little pop song I wrote would ever be included in the festivities of a royal wedding. I am honoured, practically speechless, and feel as if the song has been anointed in a special way. May the Lord grant Prince Edward and his bride eternal happiness." CR
