The Escoffreys, The Wades, Divine on new British gospel compilation

A UNIQUE joint-project between one of Britain's leading mainstream record labels and Britain's top black publication is to give British grassroots gospel music a much-needed boost. 'Soul Stirrings' is an album to be released by Island records in September/October and coordinated by The Voice newspaper. Cross Rhythms columnist Marcia Dixon has a weekly church news page in The Voice called Soul Stirrings. The 'Soul Stirrings' album produced by Nicky Brown will feature tracks by a bevy of British artists including Midlands based Divine, acclaimed London team the Escoffreys and Dawn Thomas, who previously sang with the fondly remembered Trumpets Of Zion. Other artists to be featured on the album are Joni Lee, the Wades, Sign Of The Times, Jay Henry, Paul Lee, Manchester Mass Choir with Jennifer Phillips and Jr Robinson, David Daniels and Barbara Thomas.
