Cross Rhythms Coventry

Map of UK highlighting CoventryOn the 22nd July 2008 Ofcom granted a brand new FM radio licence for a Cross Rhythms Coventry radio station. The adventure begins...

Headed up by Tim Coleman the Coventry group has built a working partnership with Cross Rhythms to deliver this new station and has two years to start broadcasting.

Tim Coleman, visionary and leader of the Cross Rhythms Coventry station declared, "The award of this licence for Coventry is wonderful news and represents a team effort for all those who were involved in our short term licence Radio Hope last year. As we look forward to partnering with Cross Rhythms to help us establish this station in Coventry, it has been wonderful to also receive the full support of churches across the city as they have embraced the concept of a community station with a Christian ethos. With the clock now ticking before we need to be on air, the moment for celebration will soon settle into the hard work ahead, but for now there's a sense of anticipation and excitement for the future."

Said Jonathan Bellamy, Cross Rhythms CEO in Stoke-on-Trent, "Tim has done a fantastic job to achieve this great opportunity for the people of Coventry. The Cross Rhythms model of Community Radio is one that engages with all communities in the city, undergirded by Christian values. In the 6 years of running such stations we have shown that Christians involved in this type of radio are able to fully take part in the everyday life of the city, being relevant and proactively inclusive with all sectors of society, without having to compromise the uniqueness inherant in our Christian faith."

Commenting on the combined service of the 4 groups running Cross Rhythms stations Jonathan continued, "It is amazing that within just a few years we have seen how effective working in partnership can be. By supporting and serving groups with a heart to do our style of radio in their city, together the 4 stations will be able to serve potentially more than one million people with people-focussed community radio; working with local churches to help contribute a positive difference to many lives. In just 18 months, between us all, Cross Rhythms in Plymouth and Teesside have launched, we have also delivered a live broadcast to the nation from the top of Ben Nevis, set up a Media Training Community in Stoke-on-Trent to train young people, and now there is this super news of Cross Rhythms Coventry. We are deeply encouraged at the confidence Ofcom have in our model of Community Radio and we hope to continue delivering exceptional value in all the cities we have together been entrusted a licence for."

Having already run an RSL in November 2007 and built excellent connections with local community groups and local churches it is hoped the station will start in a strong position.

This is the 4th Cross Rhythms styled FM station in the UK, coming after the original Cross Rhythms City Radio in Stoke-on-Trent on 101.8FM, Cross Rhythms Plymouth 96.3FM and Cross Rhythms Teesside 107.1FM.
