The key to writing a good event guide entry is to make sure that all the necessary information is included, without waffling or including irrelevent material. In particular, choosing the right wording for some of the data fields can make a big difference.
| What's the name of the event? | |
| The title is the most important thing. If your event has a name (like "Greenbelt Festival" or "Youth Alive Conference"), then put that here. If your event doesn't have a name as such, then use a short, descriptive phrase. Something like "Bandwithnoname gig", "Fred Smith in concert" or "Praise and Worship Day" are good examples. Don't include the name of the venue or location in the title, as there is a separate section for that. | |
| Where is it being held? | |
| You must include the name of the venue. If the location is a small town or village, then including the county name is a good idea - for example, "Stone, Staffordshire" makes more sense than just "Stone". On the other hand, if it's taking place in a large city, then including the locality is helpful - "Oxford Street, London" is better than just "London". Note that the venue name should be where the event is taking place, not the contact address, and you must give a specific location for the event - if an event has several locations (eg, a tour), then you must create a separate event guide entry for each location. If you know the postcode of the venue, then please include it as it will make your event show up in regional searches. You don't need the full postcode - just the first section (eg, ST1, CB3, etc) will be enough. | |
| When is it being held? | |
| If your event only takes place on a single day, then just fill in the first date. If it lasts two or more days, you need to fill in the end date as well. | |
| How can we get more information? | |
| You need to give some way for people to find out more details. The more of these you can fill in, the better, but you must always include at least one of them. | |
| Tell us a bit about the event | |
| You don't have to fill this in if you've included a website link, but it's still a very good idea to complete it as this is one of the sections that users of the event guide can search through. Try to use short, descriptive phrases that don't repeat any of the information you've already given elsewhere. This is also the place to put names of bands, artists, guest speakers, etc. if they don't appear in the title - for example, if you're running a festival or conference then list your headline acts or keynote speakers. |
