Abortion Provider, Marie Stopes Exposed - Again Yet again Marie Stopes International, the major abortion provider has been found to be failing women. In December 2016, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) published a highly critical report on the practices of Marie Stopes International (MSI), one of the main providers of abortion in England. It has just become apparent that their follow up report published in July also contains very serious criticisms of MSI. These included 373 abortion failures, 12 cases of women having to be taken from MSI clinics to NHS hospitals for emergency interventions, one case of an abortion taking place without consent and the employment of an unregistered nurse.

As many as 80 per cent of the more than 1.2 million Foodbank-users in the UK are forced to skip meals “multiple times a year” because they cannot afford basic provisions, research from the University of Oxford and King’s College, London, suggests. The research was published yesterday in a report, Financial Insecurity, Food Security, and Disability, from the Trussell Trust, which runs 428 Foodbanks across the country. Inflation, coupled with low incomes and benefit delays are largely to blame, the charity says. Of the more than 400 households served by the 18 foodbanks surveyed for its report, almost half reported regularly “unsteady” incomes. For 78 per cent of households, in the past year, going without eating was the only solution – sometimes for days at a time – to cut expenditure. Three out five said that rising or unexpected expenses, including increased food prices, were a key cause.

More than one in ten people in debt do not have a bed to sleep in at night, and others have to rent a bed by the week because they can’t afford to buy their own, a report published by the charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP) suggests, writes a staff reporter. New survey data from 1200 of CAP’s new clients in the UK also found that one in three of those who came to them for help could not afford a washing machine, and a quarter could not buy a television.

The fall in teenage pregnancies in the UK can be linked to funding cuts for sexual health services, according to new research. Funding changes meant less advertising for services and made contraceptives less readily available. The findings have been described as a ‘wake-up call’ to those who continue to claim such services are needed to reduce teen pregnancies. The Government spent hundreds of millions of pounds on its Teenage Pregnancy Strategy between 1999 and 2010 before it was axed.

The information reveals that 11.5 per cent of BBC bosses and 10.6 per cent of staff are LGBT. According to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics only 1.7 per cent of the population is lesbian, gay or bisexual. The number of people who have obtained a gender recognition certificate to change their legal birth sex is only 4,500 – around 0.007 per cent of the UK population.

A worrying new app has been introduced that allows people who want to have a baby or help others who want to have a baby to meet, it was reported in June. Just a baby works similarly to the dating app Tinder, and allows people to find a surrogate, partner, co-parent, sperm or egg donor, as well as legal and fertility services.

The government plans to allow individuals to self-determine their gender, by removing the requirement to have lived for two years as their desired gender before acquiring a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC). In a consulation set to be published this autumn it also plans to 'demedicalise' gender identity, by removing the need to be diagnosed with 'gender dysphoria' before applying to 'change' gender.

New polling published this week reveals that more than half of the public (54%) think that using the word ‘extreme’ is not helpful when discussing political and social opinions. CARE, alongside a coalition of other Christian organisations, commissioned ComRes to carry out the research which also highlighted that there was no firm basis against which to judge assertions that a particular view is extreme.

Men who identify as women should be given womb transplants, so that they can have children, leading NHS doctors have claimed. Fertility experts even claimed that taxpayers should fund these transplants on the basis of 'equality enshrined in law'. It could even lead to homosexual men demanding womb transplants.

The new disability champion role at the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has been abolished, as the board decided the role was no longer required. Lord Shinkwin, whose 'We're all equal' campaign advocates for bringing the legal limit for disability abortion down to 24 weeks, in line with that for healthy children, was set to fill the post and is demanding that it be reinstated.
