The Osmonds meet Take That (RIP). 4Him, US soul-throbbers, have failed to make it big in Britain. And no wonder. The Americans love them, but culturally, they're just not the Brits' cup of Rosy Lee. The video which opens things up is a roller-coaster "Ride" of genuinely clever moments - a collage of wacky scenarios where our heroes get to dress up. Watch out for the mobile phone sketch in the saloon bar. The credits promise "guest appearances" by various CCM bods. Sniff and you'll miss Pam Thum. John Schlitt of Petra does a cameo. Comedian Mark Lowry provides the humour (there's a Scooby Doo ending). We're taken on a dull ride through the usual concept footage, chilling out with the toothsome foursome - all very cosy and predictable. True, they've got good voices, they're slick, good looking and very nice. So it's no surprise that their audiences are pubescent and mainly female. Maybe I'm too cynical. Too old. Or both. This kind of thing is great if you're under 16 and need to fill 66 minutes. Otherwise, I can't see its appeal. 'The Ride' is not so much Deluxe Dipper at Alton Towers as Dodgy Pat's Dodgems at Barry Island.
