I enlisted my five year old to help review this CD, and it divided our opinion. Rebekah has a simple test of worship music: can she dance to it? Her answer was a resounding "Yes!" She doesn't understand "Bless The Broken Road" or Rich Mullins' "Awesome God", let alone David Crowder's "Wholly Yours", but she leapt around my study as iTunes blasted them out. As an adult and a pastor, I want to raise questions about this release. Yes, some of the lyrics are clearly beyond children's understanding - none of the child-friendly lyrics evident on Vineyard Music's 'Great Big God' here. And should our kids be fed music of such unimaginatively programmed quality? Somehow it feels just like Sunday schools getting the leftovers of the church budget. Finally, we have the album title and packaging. What is it about American CCM and the concept of the "hit"? Are our kids just objects for religious consumerism (as per Daniel Radosh's book Rapture Ready) rather than candidates for discipleship? I'll split the difference between Rebekah and me for the rating on this one.
