A Christmas project which, thankfully, doesn't descend into yuletide predictability. Seven songs, kicking off with "A Message To Africa", tell the Christmas story through several African musical styles. "God's Promise From Long Ago" brings us the message of the prophets; "Wise Man Rap" (not as bad as it sounds) weaves in the sounds of North Africa; while the township jive of "The Gifts" is probably the most infectious track. Later on, the album does veer towards the bland (is anybody really interested in another version of "Little Drummer Boy"?). But, all in all, this has enough African flavour here to give it a freshness many Christmas projects lack. The choir have been touring all around Britain recently and that will no doubt ensure healthy sales.
