Some Christian music observers find the ongoing popularity of the Prom Praise phenomenon a bit of a mystery. I have to admit that I don't always see why the Royal Albert Hall should be packed out to hear an okay, but hardly top notch, orchestra (the All Souls Orchestra conducted by Noel Tredinnick) performing with a praise choir and various soloists hymnody, contemporary choruses and some light orchestral pieces. Maybe I have to be of a certain age (though in truth I am!). Anyway, here we have 18 tracks recorded live last year featuring soloists like Sarah Stroh and Doug Walker (yes, the occasional Tribe vocalist!). Everything from Elgar to Bizet to the hymns of Wesley and choruses from the catalogues of Maranatha! and Hosanna!. It's all enthusiastically performed with the maximum of bombast and the minimum of subtlety.
