Andy Piercy and Dave Clifton really need no introduction to anyone who knows anything about the UK Christian music scene. Andy started out as partner in crime to Ishmael, only dissolving their partnership towards the end of the '70s when Ish went punk; then he was a founder member of the immortal rock band After The Fire, and latterly he's produced albums for Matt Redman, Delirious? and Kim Hill. Dave is no mean producer himself, with credits on Robin Mark's acclaimed 'Revival In Belfast', as well as being part of the City Of Gold team with Phil Baggaley and Neil Costello. Both Andy and Dave lead worship at Holy Trinity Brompton, and whilst some of these songs, notably "Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow", the rock treatment of Thomas Ken's well known words of the Doxology, have been released before, the new recordings are heaps better than the old in every respect and the production, with mixing by Jon Kelly, who's worked with Deacon Blue and Beautiful South, is crisp and clear. That having been said, things have moved on a little since the mid '90s, when these songs were written, and some of the pop rock praise sounds a tad dated; which probably explains the fact that my favourite track on the album is "You Have Searched Me", a gentle piece based on Psalm 139. Even so, a good album, but I'd be interested to hear what Andy and Dave come up with next.
