I understand Angie is gaining a reputation in New York and I liked the sound of a mixtape claiming to be "a combination of laid back beats drenched in nostalgic samples and rhymes that bleed metaphor, simile and calculated flow." But somehow this five-song item passed me by. Maybe it's the crude sampling from THEBAKR which often sound messy and cluttered with the gospel vocal fragments particularly irritating, maybe it was the caffeine-obsessed allusions ("Double Shot Of Expresso", "Iced Hazelnut") which simply didn't gel. Or maybe it was simply that Angie and her producer friend needed to spend more time sorting out their rhythm and rhymes. But I found this particular free release all pretty tiresome.
