With a voice that is sometimes haunting and always emotive in its vibrato, Torquay-based Barbara Fletcher makes her way through a light and pleasant collection of songs by writer and multi-instrumentalist Matt Palmes. Several hints of Clannad-style folk, including sweeping synthesiser strings and occasionally echo-laden drum machine, are combined with other elements, including many pieces of flamenco and classical guitar. This flamenco makes a particular impact during the Spanish-inspired song "Faith" which comes across as a rather playful track in this collection of slower tempo numbers which, it has to be said, are the best to suit Barbara's vocal style. There are occasional lifts in drama, such as moments of bombastic guitar soloing during "Hear My Prayer".
