Moving away from their acoustic (ahem) roots to take in synths and guitars this is still a little gem from the Leeds team who are, for my money, one of the most interesting British bands on the scene today. They trade in a kind of studied wistfulness which is one part Delegardos, one part jangly pop, one part Damien Rice and seven parts pristine originality. "Headstrong" is a billowing, beautifully executed song of emotive sadness. Almost as good is the more up tempo "Masterpiece" with a funky bass line and another exceptionally tender vocal from frontman Nick Castle. These guys deserve to be huge. Catch them in a club near you.
