Now here's a most refreshing new sound in worship. America's Becki has had a song feature on a Hollywood movie, and her bvs have graced several previous recordings, notably Amy Grant's "Simple Things". Most of her life this girl from Washington state has had a genuine heart for worship. After some time playing bars and clubs in Los Angeles and Seattle, Becki returned to this central passion, and that of calling the Church back to the foot of the Cross. Around half the songs on this debut were co-penned by Ms Ryan - the rest coming from other writers. But there's an artful beauty to them all and a diversity to the whole. They're very much worship songs, but not in the raise-your-arms type praise anthem, nor in the simple worshipful chorus genre. There's an original and artistic flow to these well-crafted songs, both musically and lyrically. "Revival" is the most upbeat - a pounding heartcry for God's glory to fall, with co-lead vocals from Devon Devries. Here and elsewhere Out Of The Grey's Scott Dente features on guitar. "By Your Wounds" and "This Is Why You Came" are gorgeous Cross-centred songs, while the ethereal "Peace" is sensitively accompanied by unaccredited viola. Becki's wispy vocals here and on the gentle worship beauties that follow are reminiscent of Sarah Masen's, though not derivative of. The entire album is a breath of fresh air in the sometimes rather predictable worship music scene.
