New Jersey-based Benita comes from a musical family in every sense. Her mother Barbara is a well-known gospel vocalist while her brother Lawrence is also involved in this project. Vocally, Benita has a voice somewhere between Toni Braxton and Brenda Russell. Musically, tracks such as "Journey" and "Not Alone" are both accessible and engaging to the listener. Like the rest of the album, repeated listening reaps rewards. I especially enjoyed the brief encounter with reggae on "I Love You Lord" which is a fun listen. Overall, the album is stronger in the ballad department, but lovers of soulful, honest vocals will not be disappointed.
