Bethan is one of the most talented members of the intriguing, Birmingham-based artists collective Zang Productions. This impressive debut leads the listener into an ambient hour of acoustic tracks. The album has a very relaxed and easy going pace. The soft acoustic guitars accompany Bethan's voice well with the arpeggios and light strumming throughout. The production quality is clear and brings Bethan's voice to the forefront without putting the guitars out of focus. However the drums are slightly muffled though the bass guitar give gives the tracks plenty of movement. The track "Dandelion Clocks" has some great high tone singing while throughout Bethan's voice is soft to the ear while at the same time retaining clarity. The lyrics explore the ups and downs of life with "Oh It's Raining' being a somber reflection on looking out of a window on a rainy day. Overall, 'Sketches In Sound' is a pleasure to listen to and clearly demonstrates the talent of an intelligent new musical voice.
