'What I Was Made For', Big Daddy Weave's third release, comes out of some hard times including Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Mike Weaver, the lead singer and main songwriter, has certainly grown through this and his songwriting has matured with the band settling on a more guitar-driven sound. The album opens with the upbeat title track and then settles down with some real home truths about God, the simple anthem "It's All About You" being a standout track. The excellent reworking of the David Ruis classic "You're Worthy Of My Praise" is a wonderfully syncopated duet with BarlowGirl, and there is another outing for "Killing Me Again", one of the band's older songs tackling addictive behaviour in the church, this time featuring the vocal talents of Fred Hammond. The final two tracks, including the mellow "Without You", focus back to looking at where we are without God with the album finishing with a five-minute track of silence called "Quiet Time" to try and encourage people to take the time to actually listen to God. While some may say that the lyrics are a bit too simple in places and that it suffers from a bit of American over production, this album is infectious, will turn your heart towards God and will be played many times over.
