More and more instrumental 'jazz' albums are finding their way across the Atlantic, this one features pianist, singer/songwriter Bill Cantos, an active Christian musician in the Los Angeles area. He mixes trad hymns with original compositions by himself and others, all given the 'jazz' treatment. This basically means generous helpings of a Latin rhythm section and plenty of 'blue chords'. There is some improvisation, some good stuff, from himself and sax/flute player Justo Almario, but the general feeling is Radio 2. This is ideal background listening material for your Christian bar or club but with some devotional moments put in as well. It is typically well produced, doing everything quite well, but it didn't really excite me as other jazz albums have done.
