I love them, but Christmas albums are, to put it mildly, plentiful. A lot harder to find are Easter songs, never mind whole albums devoted to the season. So this collection of Easter music from the Gaither music Southern gospel machine is welcome. It's a pity then that some songs are more about the Crucifixion (for example "The Old Rugged Cross Made The Difference") than the Resurrection and there are probably too many songs about the blood considering the overarching theme. But there are some solid Easter songs - including Don Francisco's classic "He Is Alive" performed here in dramatic fashion by David Phelps. The celebratory opening track "Easter Song" trumpets the theme, with full choral vocals and orchestral sound while fans of mainstream Southern gospel will enjoy the Gaither Vocal Band. Alongside them you have country music's The Statler Brothers, the black MOR man Larnelle Harris and the white MOR lady Sandi Patty. The title track offers a slice of black gospel sung by Lynda Randle accompanied by simple but effective piano.
