Cincinnati's Blessid Union Of Souls are, of course, veteran hitmakers who broke through big in 1995 with the single "I Believe". Over the years personnel have changed and they are no longer the mainstream draw they once were. However, they return to the CD racks with their most "Christian" (as opposed to merely "spiritual") project ever. This is a risk as they may alienate some fans, but it may also plant some seeds in others, with lyrics speaking directly of God, prayer, healing and resurrection. Unfortunately there are often some clichés to be found, particularly in the final four tracks, although "Pray For You" is still quite moving due to the situations described within. The use of strings on "I Still Believe In Love" also manages to work despite the inherent cliché risk. Singer Eliot Sloan often sounds similar to Michael Tait, especially "Sweet Providence", a more uptempo number, and there are certainly elements of DC Talk to be found in some of the tracks here. However, the lack of a real edge detracts from what is actually a decent set of songs. Maybe they just need to shout their declarations next time.
