When it comes to re-recording old material, it would be easy for a songwriter with as much heritage and distinction as Scottish-American veteran Bob Kilpatrick to simply churn out the same old songs with little value added, but that certainly is not true of 'God Is Good'. This album presents some innovative new arrangements of classics such as "Lord Be Glorified" and "Here Am I (Ask Of Me)", which are also present in the form of the original recordings, from '77 and '87 respectively, demonstrating his considerable skill as a producer. These new interpretations sound clean and fresh, with more than a few added bells and whistles (which I don't quite mean literally, but it's not far from the truth - the aforementioned "Lord Be Glorified" has more instruments in it than an operating theatre). However, these versions do not always quite strike the right balance between clinically precise production values and the passion of worship and some tracks simply sound too programmed to draw the listener in. Having said that, one cannot doubt the veteran Kilpatrick's winning way with a song.
