There is always something a little dodgy about Christian stand up comedy, especially American Christian stand up comedy! The main problem has always been that a lot of American Christian comedy isn't funny! Or maybe it's because it doesn't translate across the ocean or maybe it really isn't funny! Mark Lowry? Nope, did nothin' for me. Chonda Pierce? Nope! Bob Smiley? Well actually, this did have me chuckling. Perhaps not the belly laughs of the audience on this live recording but certainly it's funnier than any other Christian comedy that I've heard. Raised in North Texas and blessed with the kind of high pitched annoying voice that means that stand up comedy would be the only career choice available to him. He works through jokes about his wife, family, hot tubs, childbirth, childhood, dating and doctor's surgeries. He tells stories, he wanders off the point into some crazy stuff and along the way he manages to share some spiritual truths. Works for me!
