When it comes to geography. Nashville. Tennessee is but UK) miles from the southern Illinois home of Brian Fuller. But if this album is anything to go by, the musical gap has to be measured in light years. Steven Curtis Chapman has no competition on this album. Although Brian has much in common with the folks in Music City, I fear that his batch of pleasant songs were denied any meaningful production. Too many of the tracks have lacklustre openings and on several occasions the rhythm section overreaches itself. Lead guitarist Gene Bumpus, on the other hand, turns in a fine performance from start to finish. As for Fuller himself, he comes out best when singing Lenny LeBlanc's "There Is None Like You" and Paul Clark's classic "8O's CCM hit "Aim For The Heart" on which he is supported on backing vocals by another Jesus Music veteran Marty McCall. In fact, the whole album is very much rooted in a bygone era. Fuller's God-given talent deserves far better treatment so I hope some equally gifted producer makes tracks for Illinois.
