Some exceptional singers, including that sublime diva Niki Carless, give Brian Martin’s songs of worship a delightfully soulful edge and make this another fine example of how Britain’s black majority churches are bringing new meaning to the phrase “praise and worship”. Standouts include the Nigel Freeman-led “Walking By Faith”, Niki Carless doing great things on Brian’s take on Psalm 91 “He Who Dwells” and Charlene Boyd singing a simple prayer “Lord I Need You”. Production and programming by Emmanuel Waldron is tasty though possibly we could have done with a couple of up-tempo funkier numbers. But Martin writes excellent, biblically-based songs and this album shows them off well.
