This is mellow melodic rock music with plenty of vibes poking through onto the surface. Fronted by singer/guitarist Tom Maynard and making the most of their low budget the band have created songs that have a bit of a '70s feel to them in places. This is no bad thing actually. Favourite track is "Distant" where some tasteful jazzy keyboards interplay with Maynard's distinctive vocals. The floating piano that underpins the airy "Twinkle", which borrows from the old nursery rhyme, is gorgeous and the song itself is inventive. "You're Beautiful" jangles along with a pretty melody but I'm not sure that the rockier numbers like "Crazy Forever" and "I Am Flying" work quite as well. One good thing is that lyrically the band are uncompromising in their presentation of Christian truths without being too cliched. Musically, Brother John have plenty of talent and this is a good place to dive in and discover them.
