Alternative rock mercilessly combines with strong melodies to make a killer musical punch that will knock you out. San Diego is the home of sisters Jody and Jonna Cade who are the creative driving force behind the band that bears their name. This is a startling album with plenty of edgy guitar and gutsy moments that had me captivated from the first vocal to the last dying note. The sisters' voices blend seamlessly together, whilst their songwriting is both poetic and honest without ever falling back on religious clichés. This is great, because with each listen more meaning unfolds. My faves include the compelling "Haven't I Seen You", which is a dramatic plea mapping out the pressures to overcome temptation and has plenty of atmosphere with some cool cello, whilst "Past The Walls" explores the mysteries of the realms of the Spirit beyond the physical universe we perceive. I love the gritty chorus of "Here I Am", and, at the other extreme, the vulnerable acoustic ballad "Believe" with its understated piano, guitar, pure harmonies and more of that cello. Exquisite stuff! One of the best independent releases I've heard in a long time! Cade deserves your attention.
