The title of this disc suggests a comprehensive collection, however it includes the music of just three composers - and all from the 16th-17th centuries - Christopher Tye (c1505-c1572), Robert White (d538-1574) and Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625). Christopher Tye's six part "Euge Bone Mass" is the most substantial of the works here and Orlando Gibbon's popular "Hosanna To The Son Of David" the most well known. Robert White, Christopher Tye's son-in-law and most probably his pupil as well, is represented by two short works, one Latin and one English. It speaks volumes for the musical heritage of Cambridge that all three composers studied at the University there. The performances directed by the organist of Clare College, Timothy Brown, are outstanding. A good buy if you want to broaden your early music collection.
