Sound effects ahoy for a kid's journey that begins by skipping from train to ship before settling down into banality. Jolly Captain Alan Price (no, not that one!) is more Captain Beaky than Captain Birdseye as he skippers this selection of singalong songs that are guaranteed to drive you mad after one listen but may work to keep your kids quiet in the back of the car. It is still dogged by a slight sense of naffness which inhabits most kids albums. Nice singing from the adults, dubious saccharine soaked singing from the kids. Incidentally, why do producers of kids albums allow children to take solos? AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! Nurse, where are the ear plugs? That old favourite "I'm inright, outright, upright, downright, etc, etc" is delivered in a style which is a cross between The Goons and pantomime. There's a couple of Christmas songs and producer Paul Field attempts to keep things interesting with a variety of arrangements. Sadly, not a patch on Paul Field's own kids' thing 'Fit For Life' a while ago. I am a firm believer that even kids deserve quality music because they grow up so quickly and get into chart music and even kids Christian music demands chart sensibilities and styles if it is to challenge the music that surrounds our kids all the time. This is better than Cedarmont (what isn't?) but it still feels miles off the mark!

Ok, so nowadays it seems naff, but this was such a big thing at the time! It was my school participating! The songs were fun for us to sing, and I am proud to say I own this tape as it brings back good memories of my primary school days! You can't knock the kids singing, they really are singing their hearts out, I know I was, and we were only regular primary school children, you can't expect us to sound like a proper choir! You can knock it all you like, but it serves the purpose it was made for and the audience it was meant for.
