Starting a recording career at the age of 77 possibly puts Carmel in line for a Guinness Book Of World Records. But astonishingly, this Irish Catholic lady currently living in the Midlands, does an excellent job bringing her sweet-toned voice to such evergreens as "The Old Rugged Cross", "Abide With Me" and "How Great Thou Art". Best cuts are the stately opener "As I Kneel Before You", the country-styled rendition of Stuart Hamblen's "It Is No Secret" with some tasty pedal steel guitar and the beautiful "God Of Mercy And Compassion". Carmel is best at the slower numbers but thanks to an excellent production by Terry Bradford (Dominic Kirwan, The Fureys) the mood of sincere reverence is maintained throughout.
