With over a decade of songwriting under her belt, the latest set from the Canadian songsmith is proof that she really is a highly skilled musical communicator. The distinct acoustic-folk-pop tinge of her style melodiously carries the album through, though Arends does take a few risks, providing a unique alternative on several songs. In particular, the opening track, "Be Still", with its playful melody brass sounds. While each song brings something special to the record, the peak is arguably reached at the classic sounding "The Last Word". This beautiful, ballady song not only highlights Arends' immense vocal strength, but also her enduring lyrical talent, reminding us that God's love will always remain. The final "Never Say Goodbye" varies from the bunch and tackles the concept of death, in the light that Jesus will be with us until the end, never saying goodbye. While the sound carries a definite tinge of country music, the tone is sincere and ends the record on a contemplative note.
