ICC signed this duo to record the album before they'd written any songs for the project! But then when we're talking about talent of this sort it was a pretty safe bet that when they chose to record their first full gospel project it was going to be a sumptuous banquet! Soul boy David Grant first lasted pop fame with Lynx in 1980. His wife Carrie (and she won't thank me for telling you this) represented the UK in the Eurovision song contest! They've been mainly working in the mainstream music scene so it's with great anticipation that this album was released. It does not disappoint. If space permitted I could rave on about every song but I'll just choose my faves. What makes this album stand out is that they could have played it safe but instead chose lo experiment here and there. Check out the album's closer 'The Word" for a bit of a surprise. The one that gets me every time is the soulful R&B of "He Will Be There" where David does his best AI Green (nearly David, nearly!). Simply brilliant! Carrie's performances are equally stunning whether she's being vulnerable on "Open Our Ryes Lord" or giving it some on "Happy 2 B Praizin'". The wonderful thing about the album is the eclectic collection of songs: you get R&B. a bit of rap. a bit of gospel and some smooth easy listening worship. In the latter category. Carrie's '"Yours Is The Honour Most High" is exquisite and already a favourite on UCB. David proves that he'd make a powerful preacher on the exuberant 'Let's Get Movin'" and I love the slow funky groove of "I Gotta Move On". Awesome. A candidate for best album of 19977 I think so because Carrie and David make music I can imagine the angels getting down to! Let's hope it isn't too long before they follow this up.
