One of the delightful aspects of travelling aboard the good ship Cross Rhythms is the continuing sense of discovery as we face the teetering piles of new releases. Seemingly every month we find bands who, without the help of big record company or rich uncle, manage to make music which sounds good as it thunders from the office stereo. Take Cashu, a nifty four-piece from Tunbridge Wells who, I understand, are the house band for the ID event and the Grassroots festival. Mark Wells (vocals, guitar), Ali Granger (guitar), Jo Evans (bass) and Gav Turnbull (drums) play with tight aplomb, Mark's voice has an affecting edge and these guys, although embryonic in stylistic direction, make songs of faith with considerable panache. Another band to be supported as the UK's independent artist scene grows and grows.
