One of a series of four CDs from Alliance Music, featuring instrumental and vocal renditions of well known songs and hymns in a "contemporary Celtic" style (breathy synths, skirling fiddles and uilleann pipes, giant rumbling percussion sounds). A comparison with Kingsway's 'Celtic Expressions Of Worship' series of CDs is almost inevitable, particularly as both share a few musicians (uilleann piper Troy Donockley and Iona singer Joanne Hogg, to name but two), and both originate in Britain. Having said this, the standard of musicianship on the recordings is high, and the CD largely achieves what it sets out to do: present mostly well known songs and hymns in a more meditational context than usual. Those who found the 'Celtic Expressions' albums to their taste would be unlikely to be disappointed with this release.
