Since its inception in 1961 under Barry Rose, and under its successive directors Philip Moore, Andrew Millington and Stephen Farr, the Choir of Guildford Cathedral has won an international reputation for its singing. Katherine Dienes-Williams took over the reins and became the first female Organist and Master of the Choristers in an English Anglican Cathedral in January 2008. Here we receive an exciting collection of seasonal music for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany from the boys and men of Guildford Cathedral Choir, accompanied by Paul Provost and directed by Katherine Dienes-Williams. The programme includes some favourite Christmas hymns such as "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" but all spruced up in sparkling arrangements, together with recent carols from Matthew Owens ("The Holly And The Ivy"), John Rutter (the title track, "All Bells In Paradise" and "Candlelight Carol"), Will Todd ("Christus Est Stella"), and Bob Chilcott ("Les Anges Dans Nox Campagnes"). New carols from Richard Causton ("Cradle Song"), Martin Read ("That Yonge Child"), and Philip Moore ("Lo! That Is A Marvellous Change") receive their first recording on this disc. Old and new alike there is not a weak link to be heard in over an hour of seasonal music.
