His founding years as a member of those legendary pop folksters The Byrds, not to mention his time with The Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas, Southern-Hillman-Furay and The Desert Rose Band, means that today Mr Hillman is one of those musicians with absolutely nothing left to prove. This delightful release brings together seasoned roots musos like Herb Pedersen (guitar, banjo), Skip Edwards (accordion), Sally Van Meter (dobro), Bill Bryson (stand-up bass) and Gabe Witcher (fiddle) and together they and Chris make a marvellous country/bluegrass sound which brings new resonance to gospel gems like "Our Savior's Hands", "Heaven Is My Home" and "The Wheel" interspersed with some haunting songs of lost love ("It Doesn't Matter" - penned by Chris and Stephen Stills) and "Drifting". Throughout the mood is laidback and delightfully subtle. Classic Rock magazine wrote of Hillman, "This is one 60 year old who's freshly relevant" and when one listens to the sinuous oak-aged songs captured here, that's a view with which any discerning music lover would have to concur.

I would concur with your assessment of Hillmans cd 'the other side'. Very clean instrumentations and Sally Van Meeter is great. The vocals and harmonies are really good with Herb Pedersen and Hillman is better than ever.
I have to correct you, and I guess Chris Hillman also, concerning the song "It doesn't matter". The song was actually written by Hillman and Rick Roberts (Firefall) and later Stills redid it some for his Manassas album.
