The Seattle-based band are back with a concept album centered around a search for clarity. Citizens & Saints continue their slow but steady pace towards atmospheric synth pop, away from their first album as Citizens where they featured re-styled hymns although you will still find tracks here such as "How Majestic" fitting into that category. What we also get is an engaging mix of Killers/U2/XX-style music on themes which wrestle with daily life. They sing "In peace I will lift up my hands" on "My Joy Is Complete", explore doubts in "Doubting Doubts" where they are "stronger broken." The U2 sound is strong on "Madness" with lyrics "The more I discover/The more I am in wonder." If you are looking for distinctive, honest lyrics in songs performed with plenty of current rock music savvy, look no further. Right from the off Citizens & Saints have been a very good band; this takes them to the next level.
