Take Nashville-based brothers Jason (vocals) and Paul Watkins (bass), add in some fine drumming from Jake Goss and some decent guitar work from Whit Styles and you have the constituents of a strong EP. The project opens with the melodic "Colour Hit The Canvas" which is about finding love for the first time. This is followed by the punchy "Runaways" which has undercurrents of middle-America about it. "When I'm With You The Fireworks Go Off" is a well arranged song which demonstrates a good understanding between the brothers. The EP carries no specific Christian lyrics, save for ".in my heart I can still feel the promise of life too great for words to tell/A time when it will all be how it was before we fell..." which appear to contradict lyrics sung earlier in the song. There's a bit of close-micing throughout this album, which in actual fact compliments the breathless whirlwind of the three opening songs and though this collection of songs could have been improved with some more focussed lyrics, 'You've Got the Fire' is still an enjoyable collection.
