The highlight of my Cross Rhythms reviewing so far! Common Children's scorching 90's prog/rock CD comes highly recommended. A band who prefix their songs with quotes from Nietzche, Dostoyevsky and Hermann Heise are either lining themselves up for a seriously pretentious image or they might have something to say. 'Skywire' says a lot with unafraid lyrics and outwardly aggressive tunes which fall in line with the way things are in an increasingly disillusioned rock world. Songs like "Hate" and "Throw Me Over" have heavy Nirvana overtones with simple driving structures and continually repeated in yer face lyrics. Devotees of the Oasis school of things will notice two tracks in particular; both giving the feeling that 'Roll With It' and 'Wonderwall' are around the corner. I hasten to say that they are not. Some of the most creative moments are left in the effects department with a couple of great, mystically eastern moments. Add all of this background to a bit of U2 with a twist of Smashing Pumpkins and you have a worthy production.
