The first challenge is to survive the sickeningly overblown hype of the sleeve notes. Apparently the leader Bishop W L Bonner is "the man of the hour with the Holy Ghost power for today". I've come across a few of those! Also the founder Bishop Lawson, was a genius at everything except getting pregnant and a 'Preacher Without Peer". I could go on, but you've done nothing to me, so I'll spare you. But I do protest this type of bloated corrupt pollution. And so to the music. The 44:25 minute set is divided into just five very lengthy tracks, recorded live and typical Black Gospel fare. The lyrics certainly glorify the Lord, in stark contrast to the self-glorifying notes. Puzzles me. Maybe I'll consult Minister Basil Foster, after all he is the choir's Sergeant At Arms. Or maybe the presiding apostle or establishmentarian can help me! Solid enough set of Black Gospel, which achieves its highs, and has a live atmosphere which "buzzes" the grand finale, the stampeding 13:05 'Last Days" truly rocks, the lead singer Nuana Janise Dunlap threatens to turn her head completely inside out, the organ-led rhythm section cooks, and hopefully the neighbours were out. So, after all, turns out to be pretty good stuff.
