This album gave me flashbacks! Suddenly it was 1979, I am newly saved and discovering Christian music and buying just about anything in my search for music that would build my faith. I made a few mistakes in my purchases back then and this sounds like the sort of album I might accidentally have bought on a whim - worthy but not very good. Using a dated west coast jazz pop style, cheesy lyrics and supposedly smooth harmonies, this is an independent affair which is close but no cigar. There are plenty of opportunities for the sax player to shine and mainly things are in tune (a few vocals here and there are a bit ropey) but somehow it doesn't really cut it! From the chirpy "Pray" and "When You're Down" through the ballads like "I Will Run" and "Lover Of My Soul" to the obligatory closing version of "Amazing Grace", there's something important not happening! Undoubtedly there are some good musicians in the band and back in 1979 I would have probably had a higher tolerance for this album but in a new millennium it just sounds a bit naff.
