Curly Mogg are Steve Hayes (vocals and bass) and Dave Keegan (guitar) and they hail from Hull. Total Refit' was recorded at Manchester's Perfect Music studio with engineer Zarc Porter (World Wide Message Tribe, Rhythm Saints) behind the desk. Consequently the sound quality is a cut above yer average private recording. So what do you actually get? Two guys unafraid to use the J word or even the Big G word for that matter in the six songs offered here. Lyrics are clear with Hayes' voice to the fore and some excellent bursts of Keegan's guitar whether soloing or riffing. There are also subtle moments and some of the textures reminded me of Extreme in as much as the band seem comfortable whether sat astride rock riffs or gently strumming the acoustic. "Grace Of God" could be their "More Than Words"!! Some nice moments, overall obviously still hampered by the low budget but winning through. Also to be commended is the album sleeve - witty and creative and definitely eye catching!
